If anyone has win 2000 pro can you please tell me how I can get into the system at startup to format my hard drives. It recognized my IDE but not my serial ata raid setup. In win98 I used to be able to get in by hitting F1 or F8 but 2000 is different HEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPP. Thanks in advance

To format your hard drive it can be done two ways:

Make sure your bois is set to boot from CD-Rom
boot your computer with your Win2k disk
Go for a full install adn during this process you will have a chance to format and fdisk your hard drive.

second option:
get a bootdisk
boot with your floppy
then proceed with fdisk and formating.

In Win2k you use F6 to load raid and or other drive drivers. Watch the bottom taskbar for the prompt....

Hello, Mr. Jones. Bird, Steve is right. When setup is running and asks about F6 for raid drivers you must hit F6. The install will ask for drivers during the install. I have a twin processor box and need to hit F-5 to load multi-processor aware OS. Hard info to find. Does raid ata need a patch for Windows?

SATA win2000pro

I already have them set up in Raid 0 but what is happening is that when I start the computer it shows they are set up but then thenext screen shows only my cdrom and my 8GB Maxtor that I use to start the system. On the desktop i.e. my computer, it again shows only the Maxtor and cdrom but when I go into the control panel,Admin. it shows that my 2 SATA drives are online but not partitioned or allocated. My SATA pci card & drivers are showing up as fine with no conflics but I just can't get to the drives to format them. When I first loaded 2000 it only asked me if I wanted to format my Maxtor only.Uhhhhhhhhhg

You should be able to format and partition them in Administration Tools, Computer Management, Disk Management. Just right click overtop of the unallocated area of the drive.

I tried that move during my first few tries, I was logged in as a system admin. which lets you do that , but for these SATA'S it would not let me. I finally got a hold of the disc wizard for these drives and it formatted and allocated them in about 45 sec. they are online now and functioning. If you ever buy any disc wizard makes life great! Thanks for the help all!

B71655, unless you have an oddball chipset/motherboard you shouldnt need to do the F5 to load the drivers. I have done it countless times and have never had to.
