Is it possible to divide a hard drive

Hi I am a XP pro user and my computer currently only consist of a 19GB harddisk C:\. Is it possible to divide it into 2 harddrives?
Example (C:\ with 10GB)(D:\ with 9GB)
If so how do i do it will there be any faults or disadvantages?

Its pretty simple... The easiest way to do it is from a clean format of the hard drive, however I believe there are some utilities will do it with an OS already installed (such as Partition Magic).

From a clean install, all you do is create 2 partitions. With the XP cd at setup create a partition and specify the size to be 10,000MB, then create another one with the rest of the space, simple as that. Format using NTFS and install XP. Then once you get into windows just goto my computer, then right click on the 9GB drive, probably D:, and format

Send a message via ICQ to griobhta Send a message via Yahoo to griobhta
just remember that when you do a clean install you will loose everything on your hard disk so make sure you have a back up of all the data you want to keep as well as any drivers you need, passwords and such

If I'm not mistaken, there should be a utility called Disk Manager that you can use to resize partitions and create new ones. It is definitely in Windows 2000, but I'm not sure about XP anymore since I got rid of it and went back to Win2K.

Not that it makes much difference, but what version of XP are you using? Home or Pro?
