Aak! Going crazy w/ bsod in xp. plz hlp!!

I don't know how many threads I've started concerning this, but I'm going to sum it all up right here.

Okay, here are my specs

MSI K7N2 Delta_L
MSI GeForce 4 Ti4200 128 8x
EDIT: Crucial 512 mb pc2700 (also have a stick of 512 2700 simpletech, but it's not in ther right now)
Maxtor 7200 80GB SE
TurboLink 420W Power supply, 18a on 12 volt rail and all...
Cheesy 40x cd rom I'm using until my burner gets here
no floppy

At different times the computer goes into the Dreaded BSOD. It seems to happpen most often on installs of software(but not always!). Sometimes it hits me out of nowhere.
I get IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
or sometimes just all that 0x0000008E or whatever, it seems to be different each time
It also refuses to run Ghost Recon, it just acts like it's going to and then closes right away, morrowind, however, starts to run and then kicks me out after about a minute.

Here's what I've tried. Tried swapping ram, swapped sticks and slots, tried one stick, tried both blah, blah, blah. Reseated video card, reseated ram, reconnected all power leads, Installed the brand newest nvidia drivers, updated MB bios, tried setting all settings to lowest possible on video, checked temps, they're fine <30c. Put new ribbon cables to hdd and cdrom, threw computer on the floor, punched computer with fist, okay, not really the last two

If anyone can shed any light, I'd be most appreciative!!!!
Thanks!
James

I'm starting to get VERY sour, I spent $500 and got nothing, so far!

Maybe try your simpletech ram, your hyperx could be bad.
Unless you did, its not clear in your post weather you swapped hyperx slots or the 2 ram types.

Thx meese, The options it left me were drivers, ram, cpu and nic. I know the ram works b.c I used it to install an os on a k7s5a and I've also had it in my dell for the last 5 months. I'd try memtest86, but have no stinkin' floppy, it's not gotten here yet.

you can run memtest from cd-rom also, if you have a burner.

The MSI boards have been hit or miss on the RAM you have described.I have a MSI K7N2G-ILSR. I am going to post a link to the MSI forum in which I belong.I do suspect both RAM makes.

Well that's both good and bad news. Bad b/c I'll be down for a while, good if that's really it. I hate to buy more without knowing. Is there a fail-proof way to check? (But it may be great news if it means I can get some corsair or geil pc3200 hehe, I can hear myself now "yes, dear, the guys on the board say it's definately the ram, I NEED to get some new sticks" hehe)Headed over ther now, thanks for the link.

Well, it looks like the Crucial (not kingston like I had listed before. my bad) is on the compatible list. I tried it in both slots, it's actually in the second slot right now. edit: just read the part about some still not working even though it's on the list.
