DNS problem or something else

Not sure if this fits here or general tech form.

Got a problem, and I am not sure what is casuing it.
After I installed VMWare 4.0 Workstation on my WinXP SP1 system, and quickly unistalled it my connection has been very slugish.
Well actually its been slugish with browsing, changing directories in FTP, connection to Battle.net.

To sum things up a bit, everytime I open a browser and wish to go to some site, it takes a while to connect to it, then some more time to acutally load the page fully. This is not something that happens on a cable connection.
Once I start downloading it works fine, but does have hick ups and drops the connection.
Hell its still loading this page while I am typing.

Anyone got any ideas of what might be causing this?

I am runing Win XP (SP1)
Using on board RealTek NIC.
Problem started after unistall of VMWare.

Check to make sure it isn't trying to auto-detect your settings. Go to Tools->Internet Options->Connections->LAN Settings and make sure there are no boxes checked.

If that doesn't work, go back in as far as the Connections tab and try the Setup wizard again.

Also trying pinging a site from the command prompt. Start->Run->cmd->ping www.yahoo.com . See what your times and packet loss are.

Ok this is now totaly weird.
After about 10 or so minutes of frustrating browsing, it all works as it did before.
I am now completely stumped.
Oh pinging was sucessful, and there are no boxes checked in the Lan settings tab.
