Is ATI starting to follow Nvidia's lead?

When trying to get a new driver for my Radeon 32mb SDR, I noticed the ATI driver setup is starting to look like the setup Nvidia has.
ATI Drivers

Notice how it's just generic Radeon family now? Another strange thing I noticed is that when I installed the generic radeon drivers on the computer that has the Radeon 32mb SDR, THEY ACTUALLY WORKED. They didn't change what Windows thought my video card was, they let me run games in OpenGL mode and the FPS in games was actually respectable.

With their newly formed driver support, if they keep it up, I might just scratch ATI off my companies-to-avoid list .

Did I miss something, or is there no more "built by ATI" and "powered by ATI" drivers but only one now ?

...looks a little too like nVidia's to let it slide as ease of use...but they did need to do something about driver downloads.

ati seems to have put alot of work into their drivers, and as a whole they rival and in many cases surpass nvidia now. I hope they dont get arrogant and slip up like all companies seem to do.

They have, in fact, eliminated to powered by vs built by. They announced that they'd do that. I'll chalk the other changes up to user interface improvement....

It's called a unified driver platform. The same set of drivers (ie: Radeon Catalyst 3.5) will function and usually increase the performance of ANY of the Radeon cards, all the way from my old Radeon LE to the latest Radeon 9800 Pro

I use the Catalyst drivers on all my 4 ATI Radeons, 1 built by, 3 powered by
