Why are flat screens more expensive?

If you have 2 monitors, both CRT, where one is a flat screen and the other is an old style monitor, why will the flat screen monitor cost more? Is there some scientific data to support that they are better?
With the experience I've had with flatscreens, including big screen TVs, they've been nothing but crap because you have to be at certain angles to see the screen. My monitor is a 19" non flat screen and my room mate's monitor is a 17" flat screen, both cost the same amount of money and were purchased within about 2 months of each (I bought mine first). Our desks are at 90 degree angles with other spaced about 1 yard apart, at that angle, he can see my monitor but I can't see his. If I want to show him something on my computer, he doesn't even have to get out of his chair to see it, he can see it from his desk. If he wants to show me something, I have to get out of my chair and stand behind him because when I look at his screen from my desk, I see absolutely nothing. To see what I mean, look at your flatscreen then take a few steps to the left or right and look at the screen again; you will see nothing.

Less glare, better on the eyes...they're a better product...that's why they charge more - they can get more

Hmm on my flat screen 17" sony here I can see it from almost any angle. If you mean its an LCD flat screen then yea that is a problem with them.

Yeah that's true, but why do notebooks ues LCD? Because they are lighter to carry and they occupy much less space.

But CRT flatscreens are just as heavy as non flatscreens.

I don't know, I can see my brother's 19" flat screen just fine at virtually every angle. His monitor is a ViewSonic PF790.. maybe it depends on the monitor?
