Gaming Help HDD and ATA Raid 1200A issues

I recently installed the ATA card in the pci slot and hooked my 40GB maxto HDD. I thought this would resolve the problem I was having as my computer wouldn't show the full amount of the hard drive. The most it will show is abit over 7. GB, this is where I was hoping that the ATA card would resolve that issue. But when I go to My Computer and look under the properties of the HD it still shows 7. GB in total. I go into the ata program and it list my HD and the amount shows 38. GB.

Why won't my computer show the right amount? I'm using Windows XP Home as my OS.

can anyone help?

It has a partition size of 7gb...you can re-install Windows and re-setup the drive as a full partition, or you can set it up as a second partition to store your data. To do the latter just run Disk Management (Control Panel, Administrative tools, Computer Management, Disk Management)

Personally, I like to have my drive split into two Primary partitions as I format and reinstall Windows a lot, so I can just keep my backups on the second drive.

If you don't want to format/reinstall Windows, or don't know how to then setting that up as a second partition at least for now is probably the best idea.

Thank you Telexen, I did a primary second Partion. it goes under the letter F: drive. Now I can finally use more of my HD, ty so much.

Just curious, I've looked up my model computer at the manafactures web site and it claims to have an agp, which I didn't think it had. It has these black slots right under the pci slots, except there abit longer. if I really do have one what will it look like?

Those black ones are ISA slots, slower and older than PCI, "extinct" now... an AGP port will be brown, above the PCI slots (closer to the CPU), about the length of a PCI slot but pushed away from the back of the case a little bit.

I know how to re-install windows, it's always the HD that is the most pain when dealing with. especially with the ide cables to the mother board.

anything else i'm usually good at.

I have one HD, actually two the other was replaced with this bigger one. the other was a 5GB but I just have no place to put it in. unless I add some kind of brackets to keep it in place. I'm sure that's possible.

all I'm doing now is waiting for the second partion to finish formatting I appreciate your help D

They come out abit shorter in length than the pci, but are just pins that stick out like the ide's but shorter. and it's near the very top of the expansion slots. if it's not agp, what could it be for?
