Machine Check Exception

I'm stuck at bootup with this error :

CPU#0 : Machine Check Exception : 0x 107BA0 (type 0x 9)

Does this with a Pentium 166 and a Pentium 120, why ?

I can use the nomce switch to disable the machine check, where would I put it so that it boots with that switch automatically ?

It's a hardware error and sometimes older hardware just spuriously generates that error. It's generally associated with the CPU, but you know it's not defective since you can boot with the nomce option.

Open lilo.conf in an editor as root and add nomce to the append= line.

I found something similar to what you describe, there was no append="nomce" line under IMAGE, so I created one, didn't solve the problem.

So I searched an hour more (why do they make things so long to find ? ) and found out that after editing the append line, I had to type lilo in the command line so that the new conf file will be used.

Now it works.
Disabling an error message so that things seem to work, that's weird... and scary.

Oops...........I just assumed you knew to run lilo after making changes to the config.
