Outdoors TCP/IP in winXP

I have a Windows XP pro computer with a Linksys 10/100 card. My IP address has stopped auto assigning. This has happend to me before on other XP copmuters and after messing with it for an hour or two I can get it to work, but I was hopping there would be an easier way....

I have the latest drivers....I never get an IP address though. Its almost like something is corrupt. ad I've tried IPconfig/renew....I got a error message saying that I can't attempt this on something that isn't a socket......

Try uninstalling TCP/IP. Then reinstall it. If you do this you first remove the TCP/IP protocol and the nic drivers, then shut down the pc and remove the NIC. Start the pc without the nic. Shut down again. Reinstall the nic and boot. XP should detect the nic and load TCP/IP, if TCP/IP is not loaded install it manually.

Send a message via ICQ to sm8000 Send a message via AIM to sm8000 Send a message via Yahoo to sm8000
Open a command prompt and type this:

C:\>netsh int ip reset c:\newstack.log

This will rebuild your TCP/IP stack.

still the same problems. I also changed out the ethernet card......last time the fix was a format, but I'd hate to do that again.

I had a similar problem on a W2K Pro machine. It was some type of socket error. I sent an e-mail to a MS tech regarding the problem. What solved the problem was uninstalling TCP/IP and the NIC and then deleting a bunch of registry keys related to TCP/IP. I have all the info at work. I can post it here Monday if you like.
