No sound from Asus P4P800 Deluxe motherboard

Finally got the new system up and running but cannot figure out why I have no sound. Tryed downloading the latest SoundMax drivers from Asus (those that would unpack properly), and tryed messing around windows a bit. My media player shows something is playing but it never makes it to the speakers. I haven't touched any of the jumpers on the MB, the AC97 is enabled in bios and yes, the speakers are pluged in. Any ideas folks??

OK are you sure the speaker are plugged into the correct port. Check device manager to see if there are any X or ! or unknown devices.
