Overheating CPU

OK, Im running the system listed in my sig. Its been running ok (albeit a little on the hot side), but now it wont do much at all...

Basically, I start up Windows and the temp goes from room temp up to ~55 degrees before it gets into windows (I know cos there is a temperature probe fitted to the bottom of the CPU). At this point, the computer shuts down.

When it reboots, I go and take a look in the BIOS and for some reason, the computer thinks its running over 80 degrees - which is why it is shutting down I think.

Anyone else running a similar set up to me and have the same problem? Cooling shouldnt be an issue for me really, as I have a Delta fan pushing over 50cfm. I also hav the big copper heatsink that Coolermaster produce sitting on top of the processor, combined with the 7 (yes seven) case fans on the Thermaltake Xaser III. Im stumped as to what to try next.

Anyone have any ideas?

well welcome to tehcimo we don't have signatures so you'll need to list your components. thank you holy cow 7 case fans that thing should be able to hoover and I'm assuming your temps are in C not F. Have you tried flashing your bios sounds like its not reading your temps correctly.

edit: I'm a little confused here cause I'm reading over one of your previous posts and you've said your comp runs at 50*C pretty much standard so what has changed?? did it just suddenly start doing this?

if your talking about the asus A7N8X deluxe board you mentioned before then ehre's the d/l page if you wanted to try to flash the bios

Sorry thoguth I set up my sig to display it

Well Ive got :

Asus A7N8X delux
XP2600+
Ti4600
SB Audigy

The processor was steady ~50 degrees till today when I rebuilt my OS from scratch to fix the problem I had with the GFX card running in AGP mode. As soon as U had finished it started doing this...

Anyways, to cut a long story short, I did the reverse of what it said to do with my thermal paste. Instead of using a really thin layer, I put on a big glob of the stuff. Its now running at 46 degrees C Seems to be ok.... We shall see in time

Make sure u apply the grease it helps. Do u have those moniters that go on ur drives that tells u the temp and how high its been and how long its been before ??

that can cause the reverse effect. it can insulate the chip and cause extra heating so you might be careful with that. Glad to see you got the temps down hope it stays that way.
