Problem with Direct Access Memory Controller

First question is should the Direct Access Memory Controller appear twice in the device manager??

If so I have a problem with one. It is showing a conflict and this appears:

"The vdmad.vxd device loaders for this device could not load the device driver"

But it is still showing a driver installed.

This is just one of many driver problems I have had trying to install Win98 on my new system. Do newer components just not like Win98??

That is a possibility because newer components will have drivers which 98 may not have.

Have you tried installing the drivers which came with the MB?

Also, try deleting the device from device maanger and restart.

so far as I know it should only be listed in there once....did you do a clean install of win98 or did you just transfer over your hdd?
you might want to do a clean install if you didn't {wich i suggest}and if you don't want to you should be able to boot to safe mode and delete them both and it will reinstall one for you

Yes this was a clean install on a new hd. I went ahead and deleted both DAMC's and restarted and it only installed one with no conflicts. Hopefully that will cure the problem. But I do think I am going to have to break down and get XP. I have never had any of these driver issues with my other systems.
