Misc C-Media???

hey does anybody know of an old company called C-Media? I got one of there cards i think its called the CM8738. Does anybody have any experience with this card? if so, how good is it? i think its a 4 chanel card and it has a spdif thingy on it but I dont know much about sound cards i only installed it on my comp so that i could use the game port. Oh yeah, is it better than a AC97?, thats my motherboard chip.

EDIT **It doesnt have spdif out, it just has a couple of pins sticking out of the board and under them is written "SPDIF INTERFACE"**

c-media is the same company that makes ac97 as for the card I'm not sure how good it is but it might be a bit better than your on-board

looks like they have 2 different versions of this card one is 4 channel and the other 6 but both look alot better than AC97 and if it sounds better then you can't go wrong

C-Media 8738 is an APU (audio processing unit). AC '97 is a hardware codec. One can't be better than the other, since both are essential to hearing sound on your PC.

Mad Dog is making a 6 channel soundcard based on what they refer to as the C-Media 8738 LX DSP. Claims to have digital to analog decoding and full support for 6 speaker systems. The card is currently onsale at CompUSA.
