Problems With Integrated Ethernet (A7N8X)

I used the Nvidia drivers from the included CD when I couldn't find updated drivers online. My computer isn't reporting any problems with my hardware and my ethernet will flicker every now and then, but I can't get an internet connection. I have a seperate ethernet card and it worked in no time at all. Any ideas how to get this working?

Check to see if the onboard NIC is enabled in the BIOS. It should be under a heading called Integrated Peripherals, or something similiar. Also, my Epox nForce2 boards seem to be picky with the network cable, when I set it up I had to jiggle the cable around in the RJ-45 jack on the board to get it to connect. Not sure if the Asus boards have this problem, though.

I think the problem would lie in that the onboard ethernet adapter may not be set as the default internet connection......what operating system are you using?

BTW, please limit to one post for each problem rather than multiple posts for the same problem.........

nVidia drivers for ethernet chip? Sure you loaded the correct drivers for the onboard ethernet??

Not familiar with that board, but check your drivers.

Cheers

yes nvidia is right the lan is MCP integrated NVIDIA® MAC + Realtek® 8201BL PHY....

1) this wouldn't be an issue of turning it on in bios if its already detected and installed

2) check for the latest bios or updated drivers here http://www.asus.com.tw/support/downl...odelName=A7N8X make sure your looking for the right board there are several revisions of this board

3) you said the other on worked just fine can you elaborate on what your connecting to ?? I'm assuming a router or ext modem

are there also realtek drivers on the cd try those or check the realtek webiste for updated drivers

Well, I tried to find updated drivers (again) but no luck. The driver package from Nvidia is corrupted, or at least that's what my machine thinks. I did install the drivers from the Asus website though, they're practically the same.

Also, the Realtek PHY doesn't require drivers, it just needs the MAC portion to have drivers.

What I meant by other ethernet card was I have a PCI card from an old machine (Linksys LNE100Tx). I put that in my machine to get the internet and it worked with no problems. I looked at the settings for it and tried to make the Nvidia NIC the same, but still it doesn't work. My computer knows when the cable is plugged in or not, it just can't obtain an IP address.

I'm not sure how you know that one?? But my question was are you trying to conect to a router, modem, hub/switch or another computer..?? it might help anyone with some suggestions as to what the problem might be

only other thought i can think of right now is have you tried the nforce driver package of the nvidia website. http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp I'm not sure what it contains but it might help

well, okay if you want me to be totally specific then I have a Toshiba PCX2200 Cable Modem connected to a LinkSYS Etherfast 10/100 5-Port Workgroup Switch (Model:EZXS55W) which connects to the MCP Integrated NVIDIA MAC + Realtek 8201BL PHY (the non-functional one) or my LinkSYS LNE100Tx NIC (the functional one).

Also, I mean that when I plug in the ethernet cable to either one of my cards it says "You Just Plugged The Ethernet Cable Into Your Ethernet Card," of "You Just Disconnected The Ethernet Cable From Your Ethernet Card." It knows when it's plugged in, so I know when it's plugged in... plus I'm the one who plugged it in.

Thanks for all the replies people.

I found the answer on another forum, it wasn't very obvious either (at least to me). I had to assign the Physical (MAC) Address of my integrated NIC to that of my PCI NIC. That's about the only setting they didn't have in common and I didn't know it could be changed.

Thanks again.
