What monitor to buy?

I need advice on what monitor to buy... I use my monitor for a lot of things, such as:

- AutoCAD
- Graphics Creation & Manipulation
- Macromedia Flash Animation
- Video Editing
- Internet Browsing, Word Processing, etc, etc.

I am NOT a gamer.

I'm looking for something that is either 17" or 19", because that's all I really have room for.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

NEC 19" flatscreen if you want space. but if you want better graphcs CRT monitors are what you want.
If you're looking for brand names I usually go with Viewsonic or NEC

If you need to accurately color match objects then I'd suggest buying the highest quality CRT that fits in your budget. Stick with reputable brands and you should be fine.

If color matching isn't that important then the LCD monitors are a real space saver.

I'm very pleased with my 17" NEC LCD 1700V. Couldn't afford the 19".

I really like Samsung, Sony and EIZO CRTs. Go for a nice dot pitch in the 22-25 range.

Definitely CRT! The bigger the better, so get the 19". And look for a flat screen. Sony has nice flat screen CRT's. I have a 19" Hitachi flat screen CRT that I'm very happy with. I do want to upgrade to a 21" soon, though. The lower the dot pitch the better. Look for reviews on-line, like at... http://www.tomshardware.com/

Here are some links for used monitors...

Good luck!

How to Buy a Monitor
http://www.pcworld.com/howto/bguide/...,page,2,00.asp

LCD v CRT

"In general, graphic artists prefer CRT monitors because they show truer colors and greater nuance, whereas people who work mostly with text gravitate toward LCDs because pixels on an LCD have well-defined edges, resulting in sharply focused letters. Gamers prefer CRTs, too, because LCDs redraw their screens more slowly, and as a result, moving images can sometimes leave visible trails or appear blurry." Continued...

i think you should get a nice Trinitron monitor, like some used Dell 21 inch .24 dot pitch Trinitrons.
