Gaming Processor name keeps changing

I have an MSI motherboard designed for P4's and a 2Ghz Pentium 4 processor. i have noticed when my pc starts the name of the processor keeps changing eg. 2Ghz, Pentuim 4 2Ghz, Family Pentuim 4 etc. also games and other programs run slowly sometimes (not overheating). benchmarking confirms that all components actually run slower somtimes. i used FreshDiagnose. Any help or ideas would be great. (have latest BIOS).

Did you have your latest bios by flashing? If so, you can try reflashing but make sure you have the correct bios for your mobo. If not, it may be a weak battery or bad bios. This is a shot in the dark but your bios holds the configurations of your system and it don't seem to be consistant.

i did flash my bios after noticing this problem but it still exists. i'm sure the bios is correct for my motherboard. unsure about the battery, is there anyway to check. this maybe a stupid question but can you use any battery or are there different types? thanks for the suggestion though.

Are you overclocking it at all?

nope, the changing name doesn't bother me as much as the fact that the coumputer runs very slowly sometimes eg. when running at an acceptable level the cpu does 1,674 mwips (dont know what that means) when slow 337 mwips (these numbers stay constant while the pc is on).

If you can pop off a battery off another mobo you can use it. I'm hoping it's a weak battery and not bad bios.
