AhhhHh! this iS driving me nuts!

Hello and thank you to all who chose to read my post. I am in dire need of assistance. I just got my cable internet installed from COX about 3 and 1/2 weeks ago. the first two weeks my cable was running fine and the speeds were actually impressive, but this last week it has just been getting slower and slower. It almost seems as if my connection is running at 56k. When my connection for the first two weeks was running fine, I was getting around 30-40 ping on counter-strike, but lately its been around 60-80. I have no idea why this is! grrrrrr. I checked the connections and all but i found nothing. Ummmm I dont know what else I could say that could help give you guys a clue as to what might be wrong. Oh by the way Im using a router and if this has any significance its been really hot down here lately and I havent left my windows in my house openly lately as I havent been home much. PLEASE HELP!

cable is on a node. the more people on the node the more likely it till slow down.

also it all depends on what time you are playing games. if you go trying to play games at 6 pm when everyone is getting home and checking your email it is going to be slow. also it depends on the server, their connection and how many players is on the server.

IMHO 60-80 isnt that bad at all

Try downloading a large file from ATI's website and see what your download speed is.

Hi, I'm on Cox and BTW, welcome to TechIMO.

This happens to me occasionaly. You might try unplugging the power to the modem for about 1 minute, reboot, and re-power the modem while the machine is restarting and see if you get any improvement from the resetting of the modem.

Here is a site where you can test your speeds. Report back to us your results both before and after. BTW, you're only allowed 3 tests per day at this site so don't get carried away.

http://www.dslreports.com/stest

I use the LA site for my test.

My speed now is 3090 kbps down and 219 kbps up.
