Gaming Partition Magic JANKT my hard/drive...

short story, even shorter..

I loaded up Partition Magic 8 .. made a few partitions on my 120, and it reb00ted, did its thing, and every thing was gravey. Well, i started moving m0vies and muz1k and etc.. and everything was fine.. well.. i come back during the Xfer of some appz, and the thing is rebooting. So I think, ok, the pc is just doing its thing.. well it 'did its thing' 5 times before i decided.. ok. she's messed up again......

ok, now when i reboot, it REBOOTS.. over and over and over and over... i ran the PM8.0 disks, but cant find what i need to do to make this 'work' ...

i then broght the harddive over to another computer.. and guess waht...

REB00t.. REB00t.. etc etc... take the HD out, and it boots fine.......

so i try to do a new XP install..... al the partitions read EMPTY!!!!! ... 39,734 avail.. 39,732 FREE... .. W >> T >> F >>!!!??

so i try and do a clean install on the C drive.. then it says the drive/// partition is damaged and can'not be used................

i'm at a loss... all my musik (10g) m0viez (20g) are appearing to be LOST .. now, i can deal with this.. but i CAN NOT DEAL with a HD that cost me 120$ being un.useable ..

please advise...

tahnks

gregg

btw// everytime i try to delete, or format the C: in the ''recovery Parshitty Magic" program.. it goes thru it.. and then pops up a CRC err ... either #50 or #45 . im lost on what those mean..

thanks for your time..

also..

when i 'check for errors' in the Parshixxy Magic utillity.. it comes up with NUMBER :: 993 DESCR. [[ partition contains open files. Use the OPERATING SYSTEMS check utility .....

hopefully someone can help..

again.. tha;nks for your time

Use a 98 bootdisk. Grab one from bootdisk.com Then fdisk the drive to destroy the partitions. Create new ones if you like and reinstall the OS.

You can create the partitions as well as format from the install as well if you want to.

Call PowerQuest and they will help you recover your files since you used PartitionMagic8. You do have a legal copy of it correct? All you will have to do is call tech support give them your license info and they will walk you thru on how to recover your partitions.

This is one of the reasons I dont like Partition Magic. It really isnt needed anymore unless you want to do some pretty scary partition voodoo like resizing. The OS can do everything else it does.

And as Mntsnow said, calling PowerQuest is the way to go. Even if you have to go buy a copy to do it, its that or lose everything on the drive.

I found your message while frantically searching for the very answer myself just now. I had the exact same problem with a crash during a Partition Magic 8.01 conversion from FAT32-to-NTFS. It crashed, then it kept rebooting over and over.

I finally recovered by booting off my XP CD, then using the recovery console to invoke "fixmbr" and then "scandisk". They fixed the problem, and I was able to boot off my c: again!
