device manager doesn't display ISA cards in win2kpro... help please..

I have an ISA card installed in a machine that is running win2kpro. I installed software for the device that I thought was actually interacting with the device. However... it seems that the device isn't actually working. I looked for it in the device manager to see if I could see anything going on, but the device isn't even listed. I'm not sure if it's becuase it's an ISA device or if it is because it's not actually installed...

ideas???

thanks in advance

Did windows detect it? If it did then it would be plug and play and if not the right drivers it'll end up under other devices in your device manager. If nothing there then it is a legacy card. In that case you would need the legacy drivers. Did the software come with the card?

It should show up as an "Unknown Device"

You may have to strap it to an un-used IRQ and IO address. Does the card have jumpers on it for that purpose? Also you will need to force W2K to recognize the card. It won't be plug and play. How old is this card?

meese... you are exactly right.. it has jumbers... and i have to do bothe the irq and IO thing... i have set the jumpers properly, and told the software (for the card) to use those settings, but i'm still getting nothing.

i have a feeling there may be some conflict with what the OS has set, but i have tried several settings and none of them work. how can i tell what address bank is open? OS is win2k pro

how do I force win2k to recognize the card?? (by doing the things above??)

thanks

Use the add hardware wizard. Don't choose auto detect but say select from the list. I think you will have to say other device and then say have disk. I'm doing this from memory as I don't have w2k but I think you'll get it.

I have already done that... here's the thing... it doesn't seem that this device actually has any drivers.... I know that sounds wierd, but I don't understand it exactly. Do old ISA cards even necessarily have to have drivers?... (i don't think so)

the device is not plug and play, so windows doesn't detect it. furthermore, even when I use windows to detect hardware that is not plug and play, it doesn't even seem to think that it's attached to the system...

now I'm not entirely convinced that the card still actually works (although it should since it did 2 days ago before the reinstallation), but I need to try every possiblity to get this card to work because replacing it is going to be seriously expensive.
