I run Kerio...free firewall. Haven't had any issues with it yet ( of course, I'm just getting into this whole needing a firewall thing myself )

Aw, ya spoiled my fun!

I presume you are asking fior windoze PC's, not linux.

I use a dedicated software firewall/router linux distro on my LAN called IPcop. It's fairly bulletproof as far as stopping stuff getting in. But it's kind of hardware as it's a separate, dedicated PC, so I don't think you want to know about it.

But to stop stuff calling home if I accidentally install it myself , I use Sygate Personal Firewall. Easy to configure and free!

Cheers
Mick

I like "Panda" Anti-Virus & firewall... It's a VERY LIGHT PROGRAM!!!
It doesn't control your computer, and it runs very quickly when you're scanning.
It doesn't bog your system down, and uses minimal resources to run. It's also very cusomizable, I'd recommend it.

Actually you can use IPCop with a dial-up modem as well.

Just not a internal winmodem, though.

Just need a spare, old PC to set it up on.

Cheers

Just read the FAQ's at the IPCop site. I've never set up a dial up modem with IPCop, so not exactly sure how to make it dial on demand and stuff, but the FAQ's should tell ya!

Cheers
Mick
I can't get to the IPCop site right now as I'm having DNS issues (or rather my ISP is ), so I can't find the exact FAQ.
