Is it safe to disable hyper-threading?

I have a 2.8GHz with 800MHz fsb running on Windows 2000 Professional. I cannot run Red Alert 2 because of Hyper-Therading issues. Is it safe to disable hyper-threading in order to see if RA2 will play? Thanks.

If its a BIOS option, go ahead and give it a try. But I think you will have much better gaming overall if you ditch 2000 and get XP.

There's no reason it would break anything. Most of the P4s had some form of HT, but only the latest ones have it enabled. Try it and see.

i read somewhere that hyperthreading can slow some things down, so i think it would be a good idea to disable anyway regardless of RA2

Thats only with applications requesting HUGE (not adjective, noun) page spaces in XP SP1. Not normally something seen on the desktop.
MS released a patch for it anyway, but SocceRich20 isn't using XP. 2k Pro.

of course its safe to disable HT. i dont think they would allow such an option in the BIOS if it was dangerous. go ahead and disable.
