Systems HELP!!! my cd rom drive is gone from "my computer"

hi, i just noticed that my CDRW drive is gone from my computer. i went into device manager and its there but it has an Examination (sp?) mark. so i go to tis properties and it says this:

"Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device."

i have no clue whats wrong, i need to get this fixed fast cause i need to get some stuff off of some CDs. i can tell u one thing though, i think this happened after i installed Insektor earlier today but i never noticed it was gone. please help

Hi,

Is it possibly something as simple as the Power Lead or IDE Cable loose or fallen out?

Cheers

Are you using any software like Registry First Aid, RebScrubXP or other registry cleaner ?

My CD-ROM and CD-RW disappeared from My Computer after i used RegFirstAid. For some strange reasons some drivers were removed in the process.

I did not used System Restore, i did a clean install my computer needed it anyway but it seems strange that things are disappearing sometimes

CD Writer software will often replace a sys file with its own version regarding CDROM drives.

Sometimes when the new driver fails or if the software unistall routine forgets to put the old sys file back the drive will disappear.

CD Creator is famous for this one.
