IE6 (+sp1) loading slow now

I don't know if it started immediately after, because I installed WIN2k SP4 a couple of days ago. I've noticed the last day or so that IE6 takes extra long to open. All my other apps are fine. IE6 normal takes about 1 second to load up, but now it takes 10-15 seconds. Ctrl-N for a new instance of IE opens up quickly so that's fine... just the initial load after closing it is slow.

Any ideas? Any reported problems related to SP4 ? What else could cause this ?

Are you able to uninstall SP4? If possible try uninstalling SP4, rebooting and then opening IE.

Well I'd rather not do that first because it takes so long. I'm not so sure that's the issue. Just noticed it today after installing SP4 yesterday afternoon. Could be coincidence.

Did you install anyother updates around the same time as SP4? Did you have your anti-virus software running while installing the updates? There is a KNOWN issue with one of the updates when installed with anti-virus running in the background.

Yes I always leave NAV enabled when I install something unless it specifically tells me to disable it.

What is this known issue and where can I read about it ? What "update" ? Thx.

Thanks. Seems to be an XP-only problem, but a little blurb at the bottom part of the page @ your 2nd link indicates WIN2k users have similar problems. Will try a reinstall of that patch for win2k and report tomorrow... thanks again.

Well thanks for the lead. I tried installing that patch for WIN2k and it said that it was older than what SP4 had installed for me so the only thing I could do was uninstall SP4. I did so, and IE loaded like normal again. I applied the patch again (811493) and it's still good to go.

Thanks for the leads... I don't know what I'll do about SP4 though... that sux.

Hmm... I have condemned the wrong company. Google Toolbar 2.0 beta is the culprit. Reinstalled SP4 and played with the toolbar (enable/disable) and that was it.

I had initially thought it was SP4 after the uninstall because it had also uninstalled the toolbar with it.
