router problem

I just bought a router for my PC, installed all the software for it ect. and realized it doesn't work. I disconnected the router and uninstalled the software.

Then I tried going on the internet on dial-up, everything seems to connect, but when I try going to a site or check my mail, it says I am not connected. This started happening right after I got rid of the router.

Do you have any idea what this might be?

Call your ISP. They should be able to help you restore your settings and get you back online.

Why not if you're sharing a internet connection with other boxes in the house? It works for cable internet, should work for dial-up I would think. Maybe I'm wrong.

I was using a wireless router to share a DSL line with a friend, but when his DSL was turned off, I couldn't get my dial-up back.
