Kids HP3820 won't install on Win2000

Hello everyone, I'm trying to install my HP3820 USB printer on windows2000 professional. The installation process stops suddenly with a message saying "drivers not installed"...
Virus detection is disabled and I alredy checked with HP online.

I already tried the latest drivers and tried to uninstall, remove
everything and reinstalla as HP suggests. I tried both the automatic installation following the P&P new hw detection and
manual installation from disk.

With Win ME the printer installs smoothly.

Regards, Ale

Have you verified that your USB is working properly under 2k? Make sure that you don't have any yellow or red marks in device manager.

thank you, Siliconjunkie:

USB is apparently OK in the control panel. No marks on the CP.

A sidewinder joystick works fine at the USB port.

I forgot to mention that the printer doesn't install at the parallel
port either.

Thank you

Did you leave the printer UNattached from the usb port while you did the software install?

Thank you Steve, yes I did so. I connected the printer just when
asked to print the test page by the automatic install procedure.

Can I instruct somehow the system writing the registry, copying
the files or something and 'force' the system a piece at a time?...
(Sci-fi?!)

Thank you everybody
