BEFSR41 or BEFSX41

Hey, I finally was able to get an ADSL connection (yippe). Neways, I'll soon be needing to setup a network so that my Father and sister's computer can access the internet, but I'm not sure exactly which router to get.

I was looking at newegg and had figured on the linksys BEFSR41, but then I saw the BEFSX41 for 2 dollars more (then saw an additonal 7 for shipping), however didnt seem like 9 dollars was too much extra. It seemed to have more features (at least listed), and I was hoping someone could explain any differences between the two and recommend which one to use.

My network will end up being a Cat5e network. I plan to install some wall mount jacks in 4-5 rooms in the house, and currently we have 3 (possibly) 4, computer to connect to the internet. 2 running Win XP Pro, 1 running win 2000 Pro, and one running win 95 (I dont think I'll bother with that one, still trying to convince my dad he needs a new computer).

The DSL modem is an Efficient Networks Speedsteam 5200 (came with the service).

Thx for any help.
Andrew

The Main difference is the VPN Endpoint

if you dont do anything with VPN no need really to get it. but hey for two dollars more cant beat it. i would look to see on this page http://www.linksys.com/download/

which has the most recent update. i think the X verison is the newer one

either way both will preform the same, one just has an "extra" option to play with

Definitely go for the BEFSX41. This router also gets the exact time from an NTP server (it's the same time as the atomic clock in Fort Collins, CO). That makes logging a bit easier when you know exactly what time the event occurred:

@sys Get current time from NTP server : Jun. 09 2003 Mon. 20:29:01

Dynamic DNS is a great [free] thing to have. Even if you have a static IP, you never have to remember what it is, only your domain name.

By the way, those screen shots were of firmware 1.44.11t. It's the latest beta, but it fixes a number of things.
