What causes a server to be so dammned quick ?

I'm looking at building a new pc for home use, now one of my friends brought a server home for configuration. He installed m$ 2000 server and it installed it in quite literally 10 minutes. I'm trying to assertaine wether it was the processor speed (2.0GHZ XEON i think) or the speed of the scsi drives ?? or a combination of both, as i'm considering using scsi in my next build

any thoughts ??

Most servers (if not all) uses scsi and have dual processors. Those there are some fast machines.

Bear in mind server OSes may also be a bit diff to load than workstation OSes, depending on what you are loading.

But fast SCSI drives (often in a RAID confuguration for data integrity) in combination with a good fast CPU with lots of L2 cache, a good server board for good internal bandwidth, and loads of error checking RAM will help speed up processing taks quite a bit.

But you pay for it. That's why servers are more expensive.

Cheers
Mick
