D.O.A ECS P6STMT S370? How do i know?

My friend just bought an ECS P6STMT S370 SIS630 Micro ATX board.

The old board had its BIOS ROM flashed incorrectly so she needed a replacement for her
CELERON 550.

Problem is that when i plug in the power supply and CPU and the 64 MB PC100 SDRAM

and hit the switch to turn on the computer.. nothing comes on the screen. It's just blank.

When i put all the parts back onto the old board i at least get something to post onto the screen.

So now im lost as to whether or not its the board thats screwed up or not. If the board was fried or dead would i still be able to turn on the computer?

Could it be that the board wont support such an old Celeron?

Just to recap
Board is ECS P6STMT S370 SIS630 Micro ATX
Ram is 64 MB PC100
CPU is Celeron 550 MHZ

You need to check the CMOS clear jumper to be in Normal position, wire the power button up correctly, and also insert the RAM into the correct DIMM socket for the integrated graphics to work.

Ok i double checked all that ..

nothing shows up,
i've tried putting the ram into either of the two sockets but still no go.

all i get is the fans turning and a red light on the board... but nothing on the screen

so now im wondering.. is the board dead/fried? or is it sumthing else thats preventing the board from posting up properly?

I don't know if it is stupid but neverless I suggess this.

With olds motherboards, you should unplug the powercable and the battery, and short the clear cmos jumper for 30 sec.

Perhaps, it will work

Try to connect the biper of the computer. most of time, you can detect the damage thought the bip.

The spekr of the case can be connected next to the switch connector (marked "speaker")

You can see in www.chez.com/swissforce/pageweb/bios/bios1.htm the meaning of each type of beep

Perhaps the problem is not from the power supply or the CPU

try

I'm afraid it's just the motherboard.

Try to connect another CPU on it

You can look at the manual too. Perhaps it doesn't support your CPU

In fact, ECS motherboards are strange.

I have a ECS P4VMM and it doen't work with my 256 SDRAM
I'm sure it's not the SDRAM because I tried it in another motherboard and it works

I like ECS boards. Very little problems for me and I have 3. They do require a good power supply though.
