Gaming ADSL CONNECTION

Okok if the exchange supports ADSL what can cause the phone line not to be able to support it, is it the age of the cable, type of cable. I was told not to get your hopes up, even if the exchange can support it... not much of a phone cable tech, can anyone help

All I know is you have a range limit on the distance that you can be from the phone company station.

I think the limit from the CO is 18,800 feet. Some providers won't support more than 15,000 due to latency problems past that point. If the wiring in your house is old, you can always install a router and your modem at the MPOE (or where the phone line enters your house) and then run a CAT5 cable to where your PC is. I had a friend we had to do this to, because his MPOE is within the range, but the cable inside his house put it over the mark. We did this and it worked perfect.

theocpcguru is correct the limit is around 18,000 feet but most dsl companies can run what is a direct line from the box straight to your house for free if you complain enough or for a fee and that normally fixes the problem.
