That's 1,784.06 USD.

I think that is a great deal for a notebook. But what are you trading off, quality components or support?

Probably correct on both of those. The tradeoffs are probably both quality and support. 40 bucks extra gets a 1 year onsite warranty where they pay the shipping both ways if anything goes wrong. I took a look at the Dells, but holy crap you could buy a small house for the price of their laptops. The base models are affordable but as soon as you put enough hardware upgrades in it to make it usefull the price goes through the roof.

The system looks nice for the price, but becareful about support. Companies like these tend not to back their support policies. I found out the hard way Look 'em up on Reseller Ratings to be sure.

This company, directPC.ca, based in richmond, bc doe NOT provide prompt service nor replies to emails and phone calls. BE WARY dealing with this company. I ordered on december 16, a laptop, D47EV. It was to be shipped within 5 business days. I had to call them and INSIST they overnight the shipping on december 29th. Upond receiving this laptop, I did a scan using everest. It reported that the hard drive was 40 gb 4200 rpm. I had ordered a 40 gb 5400 rpm. The purchase order even shows I ordered the 5400 rpm hard drive.
I emailed them On January 1,2005, did NOT receive any replies to this email. I had to call them on Jan 4th. The manager promised to ship out the correct hard drive and I would receive it the following monday. January 14, and I still dont have this hard drive!!!! I called them on January 14th, and got the "brush off" by the sales clerk.
The moral of this story, dont BUY from directPC.ca. Their service is lousy, they dont deliver what they promise, they do not respond to emails.
