What's a debugging script do?

I may have worded the question wrong, as I'm not 100% on what it's called. Last time my computer crashed I called Dell to have them runme throught the setup process, it's under warranty, so I figured I might as well call. Whenever I install an OS I just slap the CD in after the format and let it go to work.
The tech guy had me put ALL kinds of charachters in, hitting enter here and ther and all kinds of garbage like this:
MOV AX,301 INT 13
MOV BX,200 INT 20

and so on and so forth, what was all that about?
I'm thinking about reformatting since I'm having some problems and I wonder if I need to do this.

That would be assembly, but NO idea why you would have to go anywhere near that stuff.

Where did you put this information?

I believe he had me boot to a prompt (It's been a while) and enter all that and then install XP. What exactly does it do? I have the next two lines of what he told me to enter also if it'd help. I tried to write it all down in case I ever needed it.

Still looking for an answer, getting ready to format the Dell and would like to know what all this does and if I should do it again.
