Talk Got my soundcard!

I just went out to Circuit City and got a Santa Cruz for 40 bucks on sale. Good deal. Man, this thing rocks!!! Loaded with features which I love. Quality is excellent, it actually SOUNDS better than my old SBLive4.1 Value. Very crisp and clean, which I love because I frequently listen to music. My old SBLive sounds muffled in comparison. I like the features it has (especially the onboard equalizer), although I haven't found that QMSS thing yet. Finally, I have something these PM4.1's can take advantage of!

And you can hook up headphones to the versajack permanently and switch between speakers and headphones via the tray menu icon =)

And no extraneous apps which creative loves to install in your computer.

Glad you like that card, I do too.

That Versajack...jeez, why the heck doesn't EVERY card have that? It can be used for everything! Still tweaking. The 3D stereo enhancement sounds simply AWESOME!!

Realy? Hmmm...

Does it have 24-bit resolution? (like for MAD)

What do you mean 24-bit resolution?

The resolution is the 'accuracy' of the sound card. In the Creative specs, it says "True 16-bit Full Duplex operation". See what yours says (should be in the manual).

It only says 18 bit analog to digital and 20 bit digital to analog. Aha, here it is "dual 18 bit stereo processors" or something like that. What the heck does that mean?!?! Wish I could attach the manual for you.

edit: Jeez! This thing eats my CPU!! I'm running musicmatch right now with internet explorer. Every time I scroll down or load a new page in IE <crackle!!>. It's fine when I'm not doing anything, but it eats about 8% of my CPU (used to only use 4%).

Ahh, doesn't help much I'm afraid. Lemme see if I can find information on sound card resolution, maybe that will help. As a note, the free MAD and l3dec (hard as crap to find, PM me if you want it) mp3 programs can use 24-bit resolutions to give out some pretty high-quality audio.

Unfortunately, that's the closest thing to a definition I could find. I doubt it's 24-bit though, as that's really something fairly new (or VERY expensive at the time the Santa Cruz was made).

I doubt it's 24 bit either. For 40 bucks though, it's definitely the ultimate bang for your buck. Far outperforms my old SBLive at any rate. The cheapest 24 bit card is the M-audio revolution, and that's 100 bucks. Too expensive for me at any rate.

Now I need a recorder. Does the Santa Cruz have recording software? It has mic control levels such as "recording level" in the console. Does it have a recorder? I use my microphone and also record from line-in sometimes. If there isn't one, can you give me a link to a free non-spyware recorder?

edit: This echo is starting to drive me nuts! How do I turn it off? I don't have any effects enabled.
