Systems Power surge undeterred by 1400 backups

FPL stands for Florida Power & Light or Frequent Pops & Lightning...

A pop this morning apparently cooked the power supply in my tower in spite of my large backups. SHEESH!!

1400 backups? Geez that's a lot of surge supressors

What all do you have between the wall plug and your computer? Odds are that something in the chain has a warranty that will replace anything damaged. I know APC has some pretty large warranties, I think my power strip is $5,000 or something like that.

Problem will be claiming just a PSU will probably be more trouble than its worth.

Who makes your UPS? How old is it? How many surges have been thru it before this latest one?

Thanks Mntsnow!

Your very apt questions forced me to think. The backups is less than 5 months old. How could the power supply, a 500 watt Robanton bought with the POWMAX DataSafe 1400 VA backups, be zapped by this single surge while everything else was unfazed?

It turns out that the power supply has a circuit breaker on it. I turned the PS switch to off, back to on, then hit the switch on the puter and, like Frankenstein, IT IS ALIVE!!

I've got a mind like a steel trap...that needs to be sharpened and sprayed with WD40!!

Good thing though. But most APC power supplies have at least a $5000 replacement warranty. The larger ones have like $10,000 or $25,000. Some of the large ones I order at work have $100,000 coverage.
