matmum is on a distinguished road
do i need to alter my bios settings

i have got an asus p4s8x-x motherboard and i just wondered if i need to make any alterations to my bios settings to make my pc perform any better

my system specs are -
intel p4 2.6ghz (533mhz FSB)
512 DDR 333 pc 2700 Memory
geforce 4 mx 440 128mb

also it says something about hyperthreading technology - do i need to enable this (i am running win xp pro)

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

your cpu does not support hyperthreading.

As for your board, I'm sure someone here can help you out on the BIOS settings. I'm not much into ASUS boards.

BIOS's are tuned differently for the CPU, memory, and AGP cards they support. Here are two leads to self study:
HERE and HERE
Turn on any power or system enhancements in the BIOS one at a time, and then run the system for a while to see if it causes problems. Also, keep a record of what you change. One wrong setting can wreak havoc on enjoying your new machine.

yep,i agree with wally. keep track of what the setting was before and after the change.

even tho you can still go back to default settings, it well save you some diagnostic time in the long run.
