minolta vs canon, or maybe something else, opinions ? please
Hi
guys I finnaly got some money together and want to buy a digital camera (dreamed about one for quite a while )
now since this is an important purchase for me I decided not to cheap out, if I do Im affraid I might get something I wont like so Im thinking to stretch a little and buy a good one
right now Im looking at a minolta 4mp (s414) or a canon 3mp (s230)
same price even if the mp is different
or maybe canon a70 ? or a panasonic ?
what are your opinions on this whole thing ? so very confused
all feedback will be very much appreciated
Thank You
Dan

How much are you wanting to spend?
I am looking at the Olympus C-5050. (saving for it as we speak. )
It's kind of CHA-CHING..(like $629 at newegg, about 700 retail at compusa, etc) but it is getting rave reviews everywhere that I have looked.

Are you planning on using the digital camera mainly for putting pictures on the internet or do you need something that will produce quality prints?
Of all the choices you listed, I like the Canon s230 the best. The 3megapixel Canon s230 should take care of all your pictures for the internet as well as produce quality 4x6 prints. You might even be able to produce nice 8x10 prints as well.
Also, if you haven't already, try googling for some reviews of the models that interest you in order to find out what kind of bang each will give you for your buck.

Hi
mostly for computer use, but I have a problem with quality, i can feel it easily and I will be extreemly sad if I pay 300 and get weak quality, 300 is alot of money for me
what about the minolta ? it feels better, 4mp and 4x opti-zoom
but I dont know much about the company and its products
also I think the s230 is a little overpriced, seems to be pretty much the same thing as a70, just smaller thats why more expensive
oh yes Ive been in reviews and sample photos for days and Im so confused, it actually confused me even more
I understand that if I spend $130 for a camera I cant expect much from it, but I expect alot from a 400 camera and here I am looking at these sample pics and I dont see the $400

Decisions, decisions!
The minolta looks like a solid choice and gets pretty good reviews. Its hard to overlook the 4mp/4xOptical zoom the S414 has in relation to the 3mp/2x optical zoom of the S230. Since I have a Canon S30, though, I guess I am a little biased towards the Canon brand. I would prefer a camera with at least 3x optical zoom, the MORE the merrier, of course!
You've seen these already? Thread 1 Thread 2
Whatever you choose, take your time and make sure not to break the bank in order to decrease the chances of going through any major buyer's regret. You should be able to find something for <350 that will suit your needs. If you keep an eye on the deals forum here, or maybe even try the request deals forum, you might very well find a >400.00 camera for <350.00
happy shopping!

I love the Canon PowerShot S45 (4 megapixel, 3x optical zoom). Easy to use and has options to manually adjust white balance and iso speeds. Look into canon because they have the highest space memory card out of the box for cameras like it type (other cams get liek 16 MB memory cards). Minolta is known to break (we fix their digi cams at our shop www.cameraandrepair.com).
Nikon also has a good selection if you can get through all the model numbers. Their rebates expired yesterday but the prices are still good.
I like you. trying to smart shop. I love people who do that. Just beware of those other companies saying you have to buy a package in order to get their "special" deal. Those are fake and fun by crooks. Canon and other companies have tried to sue these people for their scams but have been unable to find them.
If you need some advice, see if one of your friends has a friend that uses a digicam and ask him/her questions.

yeah if you're deciding between canon or minolta I'd def. go with canon. www.imaging-resource.com has the most comprehensive reviews of digicams I've seen on the net. check your cameras out there.
I'm personally a fan of the olympus line, but would definitely go canon over minolta.
my 2cents.
