Shutting down pc using win xp

I have win xp installed on my pc. Recently, I have found that when doing the shutdown, it display that blue screen saying windows is shuting down but I think it crashes. The mouse arrow doesn't move either.

Don't know why, was running ok before.

I have a xp 1800 +
512 Meg ram pc2300 333 ddr
60gig maxtor 7200 rpm
with cd-r and dvd (not combined)
and the usual windows and ms office software.

Can anyone tell me wht it may be doign this and what I could do??

Thanks in advance

does it shutdown though?
it goes to the 'windows is shutting down screen' and then do u have to power it off?
or does it power off by itself?

that might be a problem, because for me xp just powers down after a few seconds, hope you get it fixed because manually shutting down every time can be a pain.

If you just recently installed Norton and it was working then you might try System Restore if it is enabled. It has saved me once.

yeah...i'm suspect of norton as well. it seems that there are several things that can cause XP to hang on shutdown...the newest nvidia drivers have caused this problem. the newest version of itouch (logitech keyboard software) did that to my XP install. just start going around. also you can go into control panel->Administrative tools->event viewer to see if anything is causing problems...chances are this will show you the problem
