Should I buy a SATA?

I`m running a little low on space with my 2 HDDs now so I`m thinking about getting another HDD which I will transfer to my new box due at the end of summer.

NOw...should I pick up a 120GB Sata HDD? 119$ or somthing around that price from Newegg.

Then I`ll pick up anojther one and build an array in RAID 0.

Should I go for it or you guys think its not worth it?

NO

not worth the money ..... you won't get any real preformance boost unless you get the raptor drives and you can get 2 80gig ata 133 drives for the same price of 1 80 gig sata .

I think those Seagate drives are crap...and I haven't seen much on Maxtor drives.

The performance from WD drives is AMAZING...but the prices are ridiculous...they're practically SCSI drives

If you don't get the performance of 10,000rpm 150mb/s drives using SATA (you don't with Seagate...not great with Maxtor) then SATA drives just aren't worth it....YET

I agree...hopefully either Maxtor develops it's technology or WD is able to revise theirs to get prices DOWN

Maxtor 80GB 7200RPM $88.00

OR

MAXTOR 80GB 7200RPM SATA $119.00

Same drive but you're paying $31 more for SATA connection. I've been on the fence about which drive to get myself. I hate those IDE cables.

You can get rounded cables...it's not worth the switch until the performance increase is there.

If the SATA cables are what you want (for best airflow), then buy an IDE drive and use a converter. It will still work out cheaper, as SATA drives are about US$30 more expensive than same size IDE drives.

The performance is not yet enough greater to justify the increased cost, IMO.

Cheers
Mick
