water-cooling requires fans!
It's summer... I'm bored..... gonna build a new computer so I thought I would write about it....
I'm getting a the Swiftec 8500 water cooling solution as about 1/2 this board knows now through my numerous posts to find the best one.
I live on a ranch and there is dust EVERYWHERE! It's so bad, that washing my car is pointless. Really. I bought some filter material from Home Depot and I slick them on ALL my intake fans (cutting each fans intake CFM by about 50%) and STILL dust gets everywhere on the inside! When I check the filters, ohh my... well. words can't describe the heaping, horid, disgusting amounts of dust, dirt, and (yes, even bugs) that end up in those filters. By the way, I change them every week.
Point = I HAVE DUST PROBLEMS
Since I am getting water-cooling I thought, YEA! No more fans, no more of any of that! I can practically air-seal my case, right? Wrong. The radiator uses fans to move air accross it. Can I have ZERO fans (except the PSU fans) in my case except the water-cooling's radiator fans? Where does it get air from? I guess it pulls air in from the front. Then again, if there isn't enough intake airflow, then the everything goes to poop, because the radiator isn't being cooled.
The case I want comes with two 80mm fans for free. So maybe I can mod those in somehow. The case can alos fit a 120mm fan. Maybe I will get rid of the two 80mm and replace them with 1 x 120mm. Aww, throwing away fans is inexceptable though! I wonder if I could do something with them....
Anyways, tell me what you think about my ranting and raving.
Thanks

You CAN have no fans in your case...but then your components would get hot...I have 4 case fans...(one of which runs at ~3500rpm) ...that's LOUD..that will be cut down to 2 fans plus the radiator cooler when my watercooling system is done.
It's much cheaper, and MUCH better to build your own water cooling setup. Even Swiftec solutions have put most users 5 - 10c higher than home built ones...according to many reviews I've seen.

I wouldn't know where to begin with building my own water cooler. Especially with the waterblocks. Do I make those?
Are you making yours, Telexen?

Note: This might be a long post, depending on how I feel while I type it
Yes, I'm building my own. I myself have put several hours into researching building my own kit, but my father has put literally DAYS into researching. http://www.dangerden.com/ - I've linked to this site in other threads, I don't plan on using their custom configurator, I'm just ordering the waterblock from them. These guys make THE BEST waterblocks you can find...period...don't argue this. I'm going to go with the MAZE3, which seems to be the best they've made..the MAZE4 has obvious problems when you understand how it works. This will run you about $45 http://xoxide.com/mara.html - I believe this is one of the best radiators *created for watercooling specifically* you can buy. I've considered using radiators or heater cores from vehicles as Radiators, but some of them are rather large, and a lot of them use 1/4" pipes which are just too small, because the smaller the tube/pipe, the faster water will go through it...you want water to go slowly through a radiator, but quickly over a waterblock. This is the same radiator Innovatek uses in their kits.
Right now I'm debating on a pump...most people who build their own kits use the Eheim 1048...but I think it's a little expensive. You can go to your petstore and find a good pump, as all you really need to an in-case system is ~100 GPH...I"m building an external kit, so I'm looking for around 300GPH or more.
I suggest you check out the water cooling section on http://www.watercooling.com/ for tips and ideas on what to do.

I'll be building my system probably the week after next ... I'll be sure to take pictures and post them...I'm even considering writing an article and posting it on overclockers.com

Like the Corsair solution...I'm going to put the radiator, pump, and resevior in a box outside the computer case (In my case it will be a box I make of plexiglass) and run hoses into the computer.

Sounds cool, but why would that require a pump that pumps 3x as much GPH?

it doesn't necessarily require that much...but I'll have a LOT more head than most watercooling users will, and I want to have the power just incase I decide to watercool my chipset and/or graphics card later down the road.
