Computer losing time

I was looking at the time in the bottom right hand side of my screen and realised that the time was not right.

It seems that my computer is losing time and is there anything that i can do to make sure everything is working fine with that.

It's the first time that i see this kind of behavior and i'm wondering if the battery may be dying on me.

Thanks for your help again.

When you shutdown your computer do you have to reset your CMOS settings each time? If not, your battery is fine. I have a six year old battery in this computer and it looses about a minute a month. Some of my newer ones loose much more than that.

It's the first time that i realise that the time is not the right one. I will verify if it is changing after i shutdown the computer.

If it's not the battery, what else could it be ?

It has always been my understanding that loosing time was an indication of a weakening battery, It could be weakening, but still quite enough to maintain CMOS settings;.

I have one machine that actually gains time!

really atleast once a month I reset it to about 5 minutes fast and over about 3 weeks it will gain another 5 to 7 minutes

BTW its gained about 4 minutes let me reset it now.

any answers to that one, haven't changed battery in two years.

I have the same problem as well as my cursor freezing and my computer running slowly. But I think it is because I formatted my computer and forgot to add something. If this is the case please let me know. As for the battery, it is less then a year old. I recently had a virus but took it into Future Shop and also bought the Norton Antivirus 2004. Later I did a scan and noticed there was adware and spyware. I went to delete the files it told me to delete from the main website. But I ended up deleting a whole folder. That is why I formatted the computer, and ever since then the problems that I explained above started occuring.
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
