Gaming laptops catching fire during gaming?

Woaw strange, but I did see a post on this site that said something about a kids laptop almost catching on fire while playing GTA:VC??? I

Is this true? Because I am a advid gamer, and not only use my computer for school but I also go to a weekly Lan Party run by our collage....uuhh I won't be playing some UT23k and suddenly my laptop will burst into flames will it?

There have been some recalls on laptops lately for problems with the battery and/or the charger being recalled for fire safety reasons. I have not heard of a game causing fire problems. Do you have a link. They must have inadequate cooling.

I once had a dust bunny blocking the exit grill on my laptop that caused it to overheat, but it just gave me a warning message to shut down.

I said I thought it was going to...it's actually VERY difficult for a computer to catch fire...and it would have never happened...
HOWEVER...it was pushing out some HOT air...much longer and just using the keyboard would have burned me..and the CPU fan started making a clicking noise

Hey Telexen, that's what my laptop did. The keyboard got so hot you couldn't hold your hand on it. Opened it up and removed the dust bunny that was blocking the air flow and all was kewl.

Has anybody here every opened up an older Compaq Armada? Is there anything in particular I should be looking for to clean?

I had an older Compaq Presario that I cracked open (Cyrix 233 in that thing and it was one HOT runner! ) The side of the case had an itsy-bitsy exhaust fan that I blew the dust out of, and cleaned off the CPU heat sink the same way, with a can of compressed air. Other than that, it was pretty clean in there.

A lot of the heat buildup, under normal conditions, is on the bottom of the case. There are some aluminum panels you can get now, kind of like the top of a lectern, that have fans in them. They serve a dual purpose of getting the bottom of the laptop off of a flat surface with no ventilation, as well as blowing some air across the bottom to help heat dissipation.

Thanks for the advice. I'd really like to see what the inside of this thing looks like so I may just have to "head in".
