Kids Gateway Solo 5300 no display on boot

I bought a parted out laptop off EBAY and have gotten enough of the missing parts to get the laptop up and running. It is a Solo 5300 that was basically the chassis with the system board, processor, heat sink included. I bought the hard drive IBM Travelstar, memory (256MB PC100 So-DIMM) which is what it takes, AC Adapter, which should be enough to get it to boot and get a display. I also bought a CDRW drive for it and a network/modem card so I could use the integrated network port. When I power up the laptop I get no display at all. I tried plugging in an external monitor and get no video from it either.

That would make me think the video card which is integrated on the system board is bad which means replacing the system board. With a desktop I could disable the integrated video in the BIOS and slap in a video card to find out. I can't do that with this so I wanted to see if anyone has seen this and find out if I am on the right track?

Thanks - Butkusman

It was a memory problem

After checking with the seller of the laptop chassis I verified it was working when it left there place of business. This led me to check the memory I had bought. I went out and bought another DIMM for the laptop and it fixed the problem.
