Computer won't boot...help!

I've got a problem...all of a sudden when going to turn on the computer the hard-drive light flashes about once (then goes out), same with the cd-rom lights, the floppy drive does not respond at all, but the fan runs. The computer will not boot up at all, therefore, nothing can be seen on the monitor. What could be the issue here? Could the power supply be an issue? Note, it is an older built computer.

Can you even boot into bios by holding the delete key* down during boot up?

*on most computers

Did you just build it or did it just happen? I would check cables, etc. And check the voltage switch on the back to see that it is set to 110 and didn't get moved.

Try to smell the power supply for any smoky or burnt smells. May have fried itself.

Welcome to TechIMO.

We need some more information on your system. OS? CPU? MB? Give us your specs.

Chuckiechan's question about the BIOS is a "need to know!"

Sorry about that,

Actually, it's another guy's computer...but I'll let you know what I know.

No, he can't get as far as to press delete to get into the BIOS. All cables seem secure (it hasn't been moved in a long time...it was sitting under a desk working fine). Windows 98 is being run on it.

Thanks!
