IE 6 hanging up

I have one computer on my home network that started having weird IE problems after password protecting it. IE goes to homepage immediatly when clicking on IE but if you click anywhere on the page it locks up for about 20- 30 seconds and goes blank (can't do anything). Once you wait 20-30 seconds then you can surf around all you want like normal. But if you close the IE browser and then try to use it again the same freeze occurs. It's weird because we had no problems out of this computer until we put a password on it.

winxp-home upgraded to pro
IE6 with sp1

I've ran into the same problems several times and in fact have just did a clean install of win 98se and get the same issues. Last time I just installed from an aol cd then upgraded to sp1 and it worked out just fine..but for the life of me I can't figure out why ie6 sp1 keeps giving me such grief. After doing the repair it seems to work fine but before hand it would take forever to try to open links and act like it wasn't doing anything
