P2P Security Qustion

I have begun using Kazaa and I have a question. When I use it, I have to disconnect my router and disable all firewalls to get it to download. This leaves me wide open. I hate this! Does anyone know how to configure either a router or Zone Alarm so that you can download AND be protected at the same time?

The pop ups alone are a big pain in the butt! I went to bed the other night and left Kazaa on downloading a rather large file. When I got back to the computer in the AM, there were so many popups open that it took me almost a minute of clicking X's to use my computer. One good thing however, is that I know my router and additional firewall are working!

I'm not really familiar with how kazaa works but there should be no problems with downloading files through a router or firewall the protection the offer is mainly from in-bound attacks. You just have to setup permission for the application to connect through ZA. And I'm not sure how you'd do that with a router but with zone alram it should ask you for permission everytime it conects unless you set it to automatically give permission.

I know kazaa has specific ports it uses through your router and you have to set permission through those I think?? Have you searched the site for more help I know we've had a few threads in the past about this.

oh and as for your ads welcome to kazaa home of the worlds greatest spyware better run adaware 6 and spybot s/d and I'd update my virus programs if I was you

the good thing, at least, is that you can remove the spyware from Kazaa lite and still use it. I have read a little here and there. It has something to do with a proxy with your router, ect. I was hoping someone had a real easy to understand answer. It is early saturday morning and I am simply being lazy. C'mon! Feed me info and I might wake up...

I just noticed your little laughin' smiley. That is too stinkin funny. Where did you get that from? lol

In ZoneAlarm
Program Control -> 'Programs' tab

For ur Kazaa entry, give it both 'access' and 'server' permissions

My WinMX works that way...

you shouldn't have to disconnect your router.... only configure zonealarm...

I use a router and zonealarm together with kazaa lite.

U just have to configure zone alarm to let kazaa access the internet and act as a server.
