What socket is AMDs k6 333?

I have a computer that was free sitting here, I also happen to have an AMD k6 33 that was free too. I'm going to sell it in a garage sale tomorrow.

The computer currently has a k6 166, I should be able to swap them shouldn't I? Unless, of course someone wants to give me $10-15 for the processor, plus 3.50 priority shipping
Thanks!
James

Is that the same as the 166?

It might be the same socket, but if the board is old, it might not see the 333 at full speed.
I put a pentium 233 in an old acer that had a pentuim 90 in it stock, and all it saw it as was a pentium 120.
You might see if the board has jumpers to configure the multiplier an see if you can get it see the 333 as what it is.

IOW 166= 33Mhz FSB X 5 multiplier, =166 but if you can make the FSB 66 Mhz with the same multiplier, you get 333 Mhz.
Some of the older boards don't go that high with the multiplier unless the BIOS has been flashed, and in my case, even with a flash, it still wouldn't recognize the 233 at full speed.

True, I really don't have anything to lose though, I'll swap it as soon as the win98 install gets done and post back...

Greetings,
it will probably be fine - boards above a certain speed (233mhz I believe) were often called 'super 7' and your 333mhz cpu will need one that supports these higher speeds.
So 2 issues spring to mind:
1. It may not run upto the full 333 speed.
2. There were voltage differences between MMX boards (P55C- 2.8v core/3.3v IO) and non-MMX boards (P54C 3.3v core & IO). You will need a board that supports 2.8v core most likely (I am presuming this is the voltage for the k6 333 - it should say on top of the cpu itself). So you need to figure out if the board supports it.
At 333mhz it may be a K6-II which is a much better cpu than the original K6 - in either case the above still applies.
Regards,
Elad.

Yeah, the 'official' intel socket7 stopped at 233 (66*3.5) most boards for that period couldn't do much higher than 66*3 (200mhz) then you got AMD who carried on with the K6 line, and boards appeared for them.
You need 5*66, so if its a Alladin or similar chipset you should be ok, but not with a vx,bx or hx ones. Look in the mobo manual, there should be a table of supported CPUs, their voltages, multipliers and jumper-settings.
If the voltage doesn't match, don't put the chip in, check the one on top of the chip.

I think you'd do better throwing it in the bin A duron 1.3 only costs like £18 and they normally get to about 1.5/1.6ghz.
