I finally did something with Linux.

At last, I found Linux a use for my home.

In a post about firewalls, I read Telexen's smoothwall recommendation. While it couldn't be used at the place I was posting the thread for, I built a machine at home that is now a dedicated Linux router/firewall.

Built with old stuff, P120, 48 MB RAM, 1.2 GB HD.

Doing its job quite nicely with much less hardware than ICS on Win2k, and probably more secure.

Not hard at all. You download the updates on the comp you use for browsing, log in to the firewall via your browser and point the updates page to the directory where you saved them. Smoothwall does the rest. You may have to restart after some of the updates.
I've been running IPCop on a P100, 32MB, 512MB HD for more than a year now.
