Thermaltake Or Antec PS?
OK, so this is the PC that I'm building:
2500+
BFG Ti 4200 128mb
Asus A7N8X-DX
512mb DDR333
Maxtor 80gb
Possible cold cathodes
I need to know which power supply to get: A Thermaltake 420w or an Antec 450w. The Antec doesn't appear to have the Active-PFC that is needed badly, and the Thermaltake does. I would rather get the cheaper Thermaltake instead of the $80 Antec, but what's your opinion?

You can get an Allied 450W PS from NewEgg for half the price of the Vantec.

yes the allied power supplies are very good .i have one here that is 400w and it is working well . but my personal pick for good cheap power supplies at the moment are achieve 500w . 23$ shipped . www.frozencpu.com sells them for 39$ . i have used 6 and have not had a problem with any of them . they have been rock steady . i even have one in a xp2500 system that is overclocked . only bad part about them is they don't have alot of plugs so you have to daisy chain for fans but that is no big deal . here is a pic with the specs off the side of the power supply . compare the rails to any power supply , you will see it's specs stand tall to soem of the best supplies out there . plus it is dual fan , recomended by amd.
hope this helps .

Allied is one of the 'approved' power supplies, according to AMD. Look here.
If you plan on OC, you might think about a PS with dual fans. |

Yes, I have dual-fans as a requirement for my power source. I think the Thermaltake is the best deal, as it got a slightly better review than a similar Enermax, which is what I'm using now (300w in a system that came with a 140w.) The Enermax PS's I checked out are around the same price as the Antecs, and I don't have a preference when it comes down to those two.
So, Thermaltake? Yes or no. It's only $47.25 at AccuPC.com with free FedEx (ugh) shipping.

Well i don't know about the rest of you, but i listened to what many people say, why get a cheap psu when it's a very important part of your system. If it craps out on you then it may take your system with it.
Thermaltake and antec make very dependable psu's.
That doesn't seem like a bad price for a thermtake psu, i would give it a try.
What is the warranty on it by the way?

but you must remember because something doesn't cost alot doesn't mean it isn't good . i paid over 100$ for a antec tru550 and it died within six months!!! so spending more money doesn't mean you will always get a better product .
if i had 2 pick between the 2 i would go with the antec . it has a better +12v rail . if you are building a amd system you will want over 15-16A on the +12v rail . the thermaltake is 18A the antec is 20A

Well, what's the advantage of having a larger headroom in your 12v rail? Supports faster procs?
