I went to install and run 3DMark 2001 SE and it told me that my Direct X files needs to be updated. I just did a complete install of W2K Pro. So, I think the verison I now have is 5. Anyways, since my video card does not support Direct X 9, should I load an older verision? I went to the Microsoft site and the only other version that I could find was 8.0a which it says is for win95. However, I did find a copy of 8.1 at game revolution.com

Thanks!

ChrisK

You can still install DX9, even if your card doesn't support it.

Are you sure you checked with MS? When I go to the update site it has DirectX 9 on the site.

Sorry, I was not clear. I meant that the only other version, besides 9.0, was 8.0a

you need direct x 8.1 to use it, there is one labeled direct play 8.2 which comes with updates that shows it as direct x 8.2 that is stable.

Thanks for the links! I installed Direct 8.1 already, but, I will grab the the 8.2a because my boys like to play online games. Sometimes they use my computer when I am not around. And they think I do not know.....
