Kids Good Video file player wanted

I'm running winXP, with all the codecs, but when I watch some movies in the Default window media player they play slow and jerky, now when I play them in the secondary windows media player (no options) they play fine. I also have, I think it's called Xvid and that plays fine.

But what I want is to be able to change the brightness, contrast and color etc. The default Win media player has those options but as I said, all movies play choppy. I know this issue sounds like codecs, but I have them all (?)

Can anyone recomend a good media player with all the options?

Oh, when I use my DVD software, powerDVD, it changes a widescreen format into a fullscreen and ruins the look of the movie.

For DVDs I use PowerDVD. It always plays my widescreen movies just fine for me.
For other files like vid files like mpg, I use WMP out of convenience.
For DivX, I use the player and codec from http://www.divx.com but I find the GDivx is better on slower machines.

I'm sorry, I should have said that these are AVI's and mpg's and Divx files. I sometimes rip my DVD's to store on my HD so I can play then when ever.

My machine is : AMD XP2000, win XP, 512 ram, 64 ATI vid card etc.
I like having the option to alter brightness and contrast and color in the program and not through the monitor.

Yes, there have been a few files I have had to use VideoLAN for, as no other player would play them correctly. Definately a find, though all my own rips do just fine in all my media players thus far, using Divx 5.0.5 & Gknot to rip. Doom9.org has some freeware players as well.
