still more xp bootup blues

hi

i still cant seem to get my brand new pc to boot the win xp cd - i have tried putting the cdrom as the primary boot and still i get the 'disk boot error - please insert a system disk' error coming up.

I have made sure that there isnt a floppy in the drive - is there any other way i could manually boot the contents of the cd without using autorun (maybe in dos) - or is there another way - or a diagnostic tool i could use - any help would be appreciated.

thnx
matt

are you sure the cd-rom is being detected properly by the bios? It should tell you if it has found it when your computer boots up. If that doesn't work you can make a boot disk or download one from http://www.bootdisk.com/

Then you should be able to install off of the cd-rom. It might not be bootable.

Another option is if this error just comes up no matter what you do. If this is the problem attempting to change your IDE configuration may be the solution.
